Applications
An Ethernet to Fiber Media Converter can also be used where there is high level of electromagnetic interference or EMI which is a common phenomenon found in industrial plants. This interference can cause corruption of data over copper-based ethernet links. Data transmitted over fiber optic cable however is completely immune to this type of noise. An Ethernet to Fiber Optic Converter therefore enables you to inter-connect your copper-ethernet devices over fiber ensuring optimal data transmission across the plant floor.

How to select and purchase fiber media converter?
Since the fiber media converter is one of the connection device in area network, we must consider the coordination with the surrounding environment of mutual compatibility and its’ stability, reliability. Otherwise, although the price of the media converter is so low, it can’t get the favor of customers.
When we select fiber media converters, we can follow 7 principles below:
1. Does it support full duplex or half duplex?
There are some fiber media converters only support full duplex environment. When they are connected to other brands’ switches or hubs, they can’t work at half duplex.
2. Did it have a connection test with other fiber media converter?
If different brand’s fiber media converters haven’t been test with each other, they may be not compatible with each other that will cause data loss, long transmission time and unstable.
3. Whether there is a safety device to prevent packet loss?
Some manufacturers produce fiber media converter with Register data transmission mode in order to reduce the cost. The shortage of this mode is unstable transmission that will cause the data package loss.
The best is to adopt the design of line buffer, avoiding the loss.
4. Temperature adaptation
When the fiber media converter is working, it will bring about heat. And when the temperature is high than 85°C, whether the fiber media converter works normally? That is customers need to think about.
5. Whether it meets IEEE802.3u Standard?
If the fiber media converter meets IEEE802.3 Standard, the delay time will be controlled in 46bits. If the delay time is beyond 46bits, the transmission distance of the fiber media converter will be shorten.
6. New or second hand?
When we select and purchase fiber media converters, we should observe the outside of fiber media converters. Whether it is shiny or it has signs of wear.
7. After sales.
Don't forget to ask your seller how about their after sales.
