XENPAK and X2 Optical Modules Comparison
XENPAK and X2 module are both from the XENPAK standard evolution. Its internal function modules are basically same with XENPAK, and the circuit board applications are same too, also using one module to realize 10G Ethernet optical interface functions. Due to the XENPAK light module is installed on the circuit board when the circuit board slotted to achieve more complex, can’t achieve the high-density applications. About half of the XENPAK and X2 optical modules volume improved after only XENPAK directly into the circuit board, it is applied to high-density rack systems and PCI card applications.
10Gb 1550nm SM X2 ZR Transponder
XENPAK and X2 optical modules can provide two types of circuit interface: XAUI and Serial Framer Interface (SFI-4), can be used for10G Ethernet, also can be used for OC-192 SDH and 10GFC. It can be said XENPAK and X2 have very similar standard, X2 changes reflected in the rail system compared XENPAK. The industry generally believes that the two specifications will eventually integrate.
