Applications
An Ethernet to Fiber Media Converter can also be used where there is high level of electromagnetic interference or EMI which is a common phenomenon found in industrial plants. This interference can cause corruption of data over copper-based ethernet links. Data transmitted over fiber optic cable however is completely immune to this type of noise. An Ethernet to Fiber Optic Converter therefore enables you to inter-connect your copper-ethernet devices over fiber ensuring optimal data transmission across the plant floor.

Fiber Media Conversion Electronics
Micro Linear has developed a media converter IC (ML6652) that is both rich in features and flexible in usage. Media converters (twisted pair to fiber) convert a 10Base-T or 100Base-TX signal into its fiber equivalent (10Base-FL or 100Base-SX) and vice versa. For example, it allows a 100Mbps twisted pair switch to become a 100MBps fiber switch on a port by port basis.
The specific use cases and requirements we cover in this page are:
•Media conversion: 10/100 Mbps copper to 820 nm/1300nm fiber optic discrete components
•Integrated fiber optic receiver quantizer and LED driver
•Fiber conversion: 1300nm optics to 820nm optics
•FLP Bursts and FLNP Bursts
•Supports 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps and full- or half-duplex with auto-negotiation
