Kinds of UTP Video Baluns
Generally, UTP video balun classified passive and active video balun the two specifications. Passive video balun is a converter which only converts the signal in balance/imbalance, no need power supply. But Active video transceiver requires power supply, is not only a transceiver, but also a signal-amplifier.
1. Passive UTP video balun, no power supply.
Essentially, it is a video mutual inductance coil which parallel circled 120 turns by 0.15mm enameled wire-wire on a high-flux and high bandwidth magnetic ring. Then, the coil is soldered to the circuit board to protect the stability and reliability of the circuit, built-in transient suppression protection.
Passive video balun is only convert the signal in balance/imbalance status, as a passive device, it does not bring new distortion, not produce noise, only have a little signal attenuation. Super Cat5 twisted pair which diameter greater than 0.5mm is recommended to use. In laboratory testing, using UTP matches passive transceiver and passive receiver, the transmission distances is up to 300m. And using combined passive balun and active balun, it is up to 1500m.
Classified by transmission channel, there are 1ch passive video balun; 4ch passive video balun; 8ch passive video balun; 16ch passive video balun and 32ch passive video balun.
2. Active UTP video balun, need power supply.
Regarding the signal attenuation in UTP transmission, especially high-frequency signals, active video transceiver designed to connect a power supply, using the active signal amplifier to make the signal pre-lift and recovery, to have signal amplification and compensation effect. It has brightness & sharpness control function, can been adjusted according to the actual situation, to ensure the image in the monitor is clear and natural.
It even could transmit power and data besides video. After laboratory tests, using combined active balun and passive balun in video signal transmission project, the transmitter distance up to 1500 meters. The distance even could up to 2400m when using both active transceiver and receiver. In practical wiring application, it will be affected by many external factors, so you must be patient and debugging.

3. Multiple UTP video transceivers which transmit VIDEO, POWER, DATA and AUDIO simultaneously.
The Power-Video-Audio/Data signals are routed via UTP and RJ45. The unit is a passive (non-amplified) device that allows the transmission of real-time monochrome or color video over Unshielded Twisted-Pair (UTP).
