How to Wire a Cable Modem to a Network Switch?
Cable modems are very fast broadband connections provided by local cable companies through the same type of wall outlet that your cable TV service comes through. Setting up a cable modem is very simple, and often the cable provider will send a self-install packet. Connecting a cable modem to a network switch may sound complicated, but it is just as simple.
Then, how to wire a cable modem to a network switch?
Firstly, remove your network cable, which goes from your cable modem to your computer, from your computer--or from the router if you're using such a device.
Secondly, plug the network cable from the cable modem into any of the ports on the back of the network switch. Similar to a router, the switch can not only share a network connection but can direct network traffic without you having to designate which cable is input and which is output. A switch, however, cannot be customized the way a router can.
Thirdly, connect another Ethernet network cable from one of the open ports on the switch to your router or directly to your computer's network card. On a network switch, the only connections are Ethernet network cable connections. You can connect your cables to any of them.
