How to Connect a Video Balun?
A video balun can convert signals that travel on unbalanced coaxial cables with RCA push-in connectors to travel on balanced Category 5 computer cable for distances up to 2,000 feet.
The single run of cable can save money and deliver the signal with less loss or distortion. Baluns are available for different formats of video signal, with the most common being composite video. Use baluns with Category 5 cable to extend signals for homes, classrooms or video conferencing in institutional or business settings.
If you want to connector a video balun, please follow these 4 steps shown below:
- Plug the three RCA push-in connectors on one of the video baluns into the RGA ports of the signal source. Plug the yellow into the video, the red into the right audio channel and the white into the left.
- A balun uses an RJ-45 plug to connect to Category 5 cable.
- Plug the RJ-45 plug at one end of the Category 5 cable into the video balun at the source.
- Connect the second video balun to the RCA input ports of the equipment at the destination of the signal. This may be a TV monitor or video-recording device.
- Plug the RJ-45 connector at the end of the Category 5 cable into the RJ-45 jack of the balun.
