CWDM DWDM Mux DeMux Setup Part 1

Our product line includes a variety of passive optical Multiplexer/Demultiplexer (Mux/Demux). A Multiplexer (or mux) is a device that selects one or more data channels from a data center, and forwards the selected channels into a duplex single mode fiber cable. Conversely, a Demultiplexer (or demux) is a device taking a single input signal from the duplex single mode fiber cable, and broadcasting the same data channels to a corresponding data center. A multiplexer is often used with a complementary demultiplexer on the receiving end.

The figure 1 below shows how a typical 8-channel CWDM, or DWDM, Mux/Demux setup operates. In the example, each of the eight CWDM, or DWDM channels, are sent through a Mux to a duplex single mode fiber cable, which is connected to a corresponding Demux module. Distance reach for transmission along the duplex single mode fiber is approximately 80km.

The figure 2 below shows how a typical combination CWDM/DWDM Mux/Demux setup operates. In the example, each of the eight CWDM and DWDM channels are sent through a Mux to a duplex single mode fiber cable, which is connected to a corresponding Demux module. Distance reach for transmission along the duplex single mode fiber is approximately 80km.
