GPON ONT Application
The following illustration shows Sopto’s ONT devices deployed in a typical GPON network that delivers triple-play services to residential subscribers. In this example, a single fiber from the central office OLT connects to 64 subscribers through just one splitter.
An ONT installed in a home provides Internet access to a PC through one of its RJ-45 LAN ports. Another RJ-45 LAN port connects to a set-top box that delivers IPTV video to a TV. A standard analog phone connects to an RJ-11 port, which allows VoIP calls to be made over the Internet connection. An ONT installed in another home supports the same Internet and VoIP services, but this ONT also provides Internet access to a notebook PC through an 802.11n Wi-Fi connection. In addition, the OTN delivers a cable TV service directly to a TV through an RF coax cable connection.
