How to Strip Cords to Sell for Scrap Metal?
Scrap metal and recycling are a major industry in both the U.S. and other countries around the world. “Scrap metal” is metal that has been used for some purpose, whether it is in a car, a building, electrical wiring or even air conditioners, that it is separated in to its component metals, sometimes involving smelting, and then recycled and re-used for another purpose. Stripping electrical wires to recycle the copper wire will provide the “scrapper” with more money, because scrap yards pay more for pre-stripped wires. However, the stripping can take a long time, so it may not be worth it in the end. Have a question? Get an answer from a handyman now!
Please follow the below tips to Strip Cords to Sell for Scrap Metal.
1. Cut the ends off of the cord using the wire cutters. The ends are not considered scrap metal, so they should be disposed of at a dump site or another recycling center.
2. Cut the wire open along its length using the utility knife. By removing all of the outer sheath at one time, you will save time and energy.
3. Unwind the wires from one another. The copper wires within an electrical cord are usually wound or braided together. Unwind them so you have each individual strand separated form the other strands and from the insulation inside the cord.
4. Strip the coating from each of the copper wires with the wire strippers. The easiest way to do this is to strip a small section, about 6 to 10 inches, of the wire at one time. You clamp the wire strippers over the wire and pull away from the main body of the wire, stripping the coating off the copper wire. Repeat this for the remainder of the wires.
For the high speed connection cables, like SFP+ cables, XFP to XFP cables, if their life is over or are broken, please don't throw them away as one pleases. Consider the environmental way to deal with them please.
