The selection of fiber optic cable is not only according to the number of fibers and the type of fiber, but should be based on the use of environment to select the outer sheath of the cable.

The four principles to choose fiber optical cable are:
Firstly, when the fiber optical cable is buried directly out of doors, it should use the armored cable. When the fiber optical cable is overhead, we can choose two or more cable with black plastic outer sheath of stiffeners.

Secondly, the fiber optical cable using in the building should think about the flame retardant, poison and smoke. Generally, in the pipeline or forced ventilation, we can use the flame retardant but the smoking type. While in the exposed environment, we should choose the flame retardant, non-toxic and non-smoking type.

Thirdly, when we wire the cable vertically in building, the distribution cable is optional. And breakout cable can be chosen when we wire the cable horizontally.

Finally, we can select the multimode fiber optical cable when the transmission is less than 2km, While the transmission is more than 2km we choose the single mode fiber optical cable.
