What is Drop Cable?

Drop Cable is located on the subscriber end to connect the terminal of a distribution cable to a subscriber’s premises. A typical drop cable is with a flat out-looking, so it is also called Flat Type Drop Cable. Sometimes when the cable is introduced into the building through aerial installation, a self-supporting type drop cable is preferred. Compared with common drop cable, self-supporting type is with a metal messenger wire and has better tensile performance.

Drop cable is usually consists of a LSZH jacket, several fibers and two dielectric strength members to give high crush resistance. They usually contain one or two fibers, however, drop cable with fiber counts up to 12 or more is also available now. Small diameter 2.0*3.0mm(self-supporting type after ripping off the messenger wire), light weight make it so easy for operation during the cabling and splicing and well-liked by the engineers.
