What is the wavelength of single mode fiber and multi-mode fiber?
In the theory of fiber optical communication, fiber can be divided into single mode and multi-mode. And the difference between single mode and multi-mode is the core diameter. The core diameter of single mode is smaller (about 10mm). It allows only one mode to transmit and the dispersion is small. Its working wavelength is the long wave which is from 1310nm to 1550nm. It is relatively difficult to couple with the optical devices. The core diameter of multi-mode fiber is bigger (62.5mm or 50mm). It allows hundreds of mode to transmit and the dispersion is big. It works in the wavelength of 850nm or 1310nm. It is relatively easy to couple with the optical devices.
