Cisco Ethernet XFP Passive Cable Characteristics
The Cisco XFP passive Cable includes an optical transmitter and receiver pair integrated with Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) integrated circuits. The XFPs provide high-speed serial links on the following rates: 9.95Gbps (OC-192) and 10.3125Gbps (10 Gigabit Ethernet) on single mode fibers. The transmit side recovers and retimes the 10Gbps serial data and passes it to some laser driver.

The laser driver biases and modulates a 1310 nm or 1550 nm laser, enabling data transmission over SMF through an LC connector. The receive side recovers and retimes the 10Gbps optical data stream from your photo detector transimpedance amplifier and passes it for an output driver. Cisco XFP passive Cable module uses the bail clasp latching mechanism as shown unlatched in Figure 1 and latched in Figure 2.

Latched XFP Module
See the label on the Cisco XFP passive Cable for technology type and model The Cisco NAM 2220 appliance uses up to two 10GB Ethernet XFP modules to connect fiber optical cables as monitoring input sources. The Cisco XFP passive Cable can both be long range (LR) or both be short range (SR), or you can install one of each. Depending on the type of XFP you use, you must use the correct fiber optical cable products.
