NTT forced by LTE competitive pressures reduced FTTH service pri
November 22nd, 2012, due to subscriber growth slows, NTT's company,NTT East and NTT West reduced 34% of the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service price,reduced to 3,600 yen from 5,460 yen ($ 67).The move is seen as the measures taken in order to prevent customers from abandoning fixed broadband services and steering LTE mobile broadband platform.
TeleGeography's GlobalComms data show that the number of new FTTH subscribers NTT network fell from 2.046 million (as of June 2010, 10 months) to 1.756 million (as of June 2011, 12 months).In the twelve months ended June 2012,the number further dropped to 1.277 million.
According to Australia's technology news site Delimiter signings say NTT East and NTT West, the main reason for the decline of the its FTTH service order rate is many young users has been paid smartphone LTE data plan therefore lost their desire to pay the home FTTH service. Different from smaller rivals KDDI,NTT does not allow FTTH services and LTE services sold by way of a single bundle.
