LANs

LANs is the abbreviation of Local Area Networks. They are privately-owned networks, which is in the size of a few kilometers, such as a single building or a campus. They are widely used to connect personal computers and workstations. For example, in a company, offices and factories can share resources (e.g., printers) and exchange information through LANs. LANs have three main characteristics to distinguish from other kinds of network, that is: the size, their transmission technology, and their topology.
