Types of 10G transceiver modules

Owing to the high integration of transceiver modules, the function of 10G Ethernet interface can fully be achieved with only one optical transceiver module.

Nowadays, the widely-used 10G optical transceiver modules are SFP+, XFP, XENAK, X2 and QSFP+.

SFP+, the upgrade version of SFP, being portable in volumes and in transmitting high data rate, is the mainstream in the field of optical communication.

XFP is a hot-pluggable optical transceiver module with tight configuration and low expenditure. It is like a SFP of Gigabit Ethernet, thus possessing great advantages. 

XENPAK is simple in its applications, because the interface of 10G Ethernet can be achieved with only one optical transceiver module. But it has the weakness of large volume and high power consumption.

X2 is the upgrading version of XENPAK and its volume decreased by about 40%.

QSFP+ provides four channels of data in one pluggable interface. QSFP+ was produced to meet the needs of high-density and hot-pluggable solutions in the market. The data rate of the four channels reaches to 40Gbps in total.
