What is the difference between optical fiber and network wire?

Optical fiber and network wire are often confused by some people.

In terms of material, optical fiber is made of glasses while network wire is made of copper.

In terms of transmission distance, optical fiber is mainly used for long distance while network wire’s best transmission distance should not excess 100m.

In terms of data rate, normal network can only provide 10Mpb/s, but optical fiber can support data rate up to 40Gpb/s.

In terms of cost and performance, optical fiber costs less than network wire and has much stronger performance than network wire.
