What is fiber optical preform?

Fiber optical preform is the core raw materials of manufacturing quartz series fiber. Simply put,the special prefabricated big stick of glass used to pull fiber (silk).

People in the manufacture of optical fiber system must first make optical fiber preform, preform general diameter of a few millimeters to tens millimeters (commonly known as light bar). The internal structure of the optical fiber is formed in the preform, and thus the production of the preform is the most important part of the fiber process. There are several ways of making light bar, commonly used in the production process is the gas-phase oxidation. In the gas phase oxidation method, a high purity metal halide vapor and oxygen react to form some of the oxide particles, these oxide particles will be deposited on glass or quartz the surface of the body (or on the inner wall of the tubular body), and then formed by sintering transparent glass rod (if it is tubular, but also shrink it become a rod), so that the light stick, it may lead you. The rods at this time already have the basic structure of the optical fiber pulled out of the bare optical fiber through a drawing machine, including a core and cladding. In order to protect the bare glass fiber from light and moisture external substances pollution ,some optical fiber varieties give it coated with the elastic paint (coating layer) when pulling fiber. The optical fiber is consist of core, cladding and a coating layer.The light guide part is on the axis of the solid core, the role of the clad layer is to provide a cylindrical interface, so that the light will be trapped in the core. The covering layer is an elastic abrasion resistant plastic material, which enhances the strength and flexibility of the optical fiber.
